Tracking Progress

Once your website is operational and you’ve got a solid web marketing plan in effect, you’re going to want to track your progress, to see what is working and what isn’t.

There are several free online tools which assist the small business owner in tracking their online growth, such as Google Analytics or keyword searchers. These and others can tell you how many hits you’re receiving in a day, week, or month; how many pages the average browser views; how long they stay on your site; which keywords best lead to your site; how many backlinks your site has; how highly Google has rated your site; and so on.

After each effort to build SEO, such as marketing promos or news releases, check your stats to see how effective your campaign is. Set daily markers, but pay attention to monthly trends. How many months has your site remained at a 0 PageRank? Should you be doing something differently? Is Google recognizing your keywords as efficiently as you had hoped? These tools are wonderful assets in gauging such progress.

I still don't get it.
